The Backrooms: 1998 is a first-person, found footage psychological survival horror game that follows the story of a young teenager who accidentally falls into the terrifying depths of The Backrooms in 1998. Explore freely, mark your path, and uncover the mystery—but be aware, you’re not alone.
Don’t scream—it will hear you. Watch your steps—if you step on glass, it will hear you. If you knock over objects, it may hear you. Every action has consequences.
Search for supplies, tools, and items to aid your escape. Tools like a spray gun can help you mark your way to avoid getting lost. But be careful—what seems like shadows might not be shadows at all. Something—or someone—could be lurking nearby.
Use your stamina wisely, and only when necessary. If you spot something unusual, hiding in crawl spaces, under tables, or in lockers could be your best option.
Note: The Backrooms: 1998 is a survival horror game in development by a single developer. It’s an “escape room”-style game where you collect clues and supplies to help you survive and escape The Backrooms. The game is in Early Access, and I will continue to update it frequently to provide the best experience possible.
