But don’t get too excited—you’re still on a six-month probation, so freedom isn’t exactly free. They’ve assigned you to a halfway house way out in the sticks, supposedly to help you learn how to be an adult. Not that juvie taught you anything useful. You went in at fifteen, and the world’s moved on without you. Now you’re standing there, thinking you’ve just been traded from one dump to another. Outside, your probation officer’s waiting to drive you to your new “home.” Is it gonna be just as bad as the last place? Maybe. Maybe not. Only one way to find out.
