CATO: Buttered Cat is a charming puzzle platformer inspired by the buttered-cat paradox meme, which humorously suggests that cats always land on their feet while toast invariably lands buttered side down. By attaching a slice of buttered toast to a cat’s back, players create a paradox that results in an endlessly spinning, floating butter-cat perpetual motion machine! The game features two main characters: “Cat” and “Buttered Toast.” Players must leverage their interactions to solve a variety of puzzles across numerous levels.
The full game boasts over 140 primary levels and more than 60 additional side levels, along with hidden rooms, challenging boss battles, and engaging mini-games. In the complete version, players can enjoy an outfit system with over 30 unique skins for both Cat and Toast to collect. Control the cat as it runs, climbs scratching posts, and navigates through pipes—after all, cats are liquid! Meanwhile, guide the toast, which behaves like a projectile; by holding down and powering up, players can make the toast jump further. When Cat and Toast work together, they can trigger the paradox, allowing the cat to reach otherwise inaccessible areas.
CATO promises a brain-teasing adventure across five distinct worlds, each filled with inventive contraptions, including toasters (with Toast exclaiming “NO!!”), buttered trampolines, and speed-boosting space pipes (with Cat responding “Meow!!”). Along their journey, the duo will also meet mysterious companions who will assist them in solving puzzles.
