Game Overview The Shell Part II: Purgatorio
Before Japan entered into war and global chaos ensued, in the snowy mountains of the north, there existed a small village called Hitogata where the residents followed an ancient tradition of worshipping clay dolls. During a festival night, a woman was tragically murdered, leading the villagers to interpret it as a divine curse—a punishment for attempting to wield the power of their god. Fast forward to December 1957, nearly two years after Toko Kuchiki’s abduction from her hospital room. Reiji Tokisaka’s younger sister, Yukari, intervenes to prevent a man from taking his own life, only to discover that he is a victim of the returning curse. Reiji endeavors to break a cycle of obsession that predates the war, all the while grappling with his own fixation on Toko. Simultaneously, a long-dormant cult resurfaces after six years of silence, prompting questions about their intentions.
While curses may be attributed to divine forces, it is ultimately human hands that carry out their malevolent deeds. Reiji, a private investigator and the protagonist from The Shell Part I: Inferno, leads a dual life characterized by laziness and disorder in his personal affairs, juxtaposed with a strong sense of duty in his professional endeavors. Following the loss of his fiancée during a case, he resigned from the police force to confront his past as a solitary PI. Presently residing with his sister Yukari, Reiji continues his quest to locate a girl who vanished while connected to his investigation of the Girl in Shell case.
