Barotrauma is a 2D co-op survival horror submarine simulator, inspired by games like FTL: Faster Than Light, Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress and Space Station 13. It’s a Sci-Fi game that combines ragdoll physics and alien sea monsters with teamwork and existential fear.

In the not too distant future, humanity has fled to Jupiter’s moon. With its irradiated icy surface, life can only be found in the ocean below. There are as many ways to enjoy Barotrauma as there are ways to die in it. Work together with your crew to achieve your goals, or brace for betrayal when you have a traitor on board. Play with friends, strangers, or your worst enemies.

EXPLORE, OPERATE, COMMUNICATE

Navigate underwater, complete missions for the last remnants of humankind, explore the ruins of an alien civilization, flee or fight monsters. Operate complex on-board systems and devices like the sonar, nuclear reactor, weapons, engines and pumps. Communication is key!

EXPERIMENT, CRAFT, CREATE

Master the complex on-board wiring and the comprehensive crafting and medical systems. Create your own submarines and monsters with built-in editors to rival the standard ones. Even tap directly into our source code and mod away.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“During Early Access, the game will be available at a reduced price to the community of players who continue to help us develop it. The complete game will then be normal-priced for new players after full release.â€

“Barotrauma has always been a community effort, and that doesn’t change with early access – your feedback, suggestions, ideas, enthusiasm and other contributions help us to make a better game for you. Just as importantly, we are excited to empower you with better mod tools and a better way to share and discover content right from day 1, and to provide technical support to you as you create new things with those tools.

Hello again!
On Wednesday, we only wrote a quick announcement here, thinking we would have the time and space to talk to you like we do via chats and forums. Little did we know we would get new messages faster than we could read the ones already in our inboxes! Additionally, there have of course been technical issues – wouldn’t be a proper launch if it didn’t keep the programmers busy straight after…
So we’re sorry if we haven’t returned your message; we promise we are going to read it, however. And most importantly, thank you for every review (the negative ones too, we really read them all!), purchase and wishlist addition – our first days post-launch have been amazing, if also crazily busy. Now we wanted to take the time to go a little deeper into what we actually released two nights ago.
And in particular the big question: what’s the difference between the game that everyone played for free for years and this one that we now have to pay for?
We’re also trying our best to react to the sudden explosion in the volume of Discussion posts, and there will be more sensible subforums soon. Let’s keep in touch!
